Sheriff’s Office Using Life-Saving Tool to Protect Officers and De-Escalate Violence

Under the direction of Sheriff Timothy Carter, Captain Kolter Stroop, and Sergeant Warren Poff, the sheriff’s office is leading the way in the state of Virginia with this revolutionary equipment and industry-leading training.

Shenandoah County now joins a large number of law enforcement agencies around the country who are embracing this tool to de-escalate violence and better protect both police officers and the public.

The Vector is a maneuverable, lightweight, single-arm secured ballistic de-escalation barrier that stores in the front of a patrol vehicle next to an officer. The smaller, stronger, lighter, and more versatile tool protects critical mass in tight spots while protecting the officer’s centerline.

It is specially designed to protect both officer and citizen by placing a safety barrier between them, giving the officer a few extra seconds to assess a situation and time to transition to a less-lethal force option while protected, when possible.
